Face and health data policy

This page is about two things: the face photos you take with the PERBETE camera, and the health answers you give in the quiz. Both are optional. You can skip the camera and any health question. We treat your face photos, and the numbers our camera reads from them, as health data too. This page is also our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy under Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada law.
In short
Our camera reads your skin from your photos, like your skin age and skin tone. We use that and your answers to pick your products and to follow how your skin changes.
Your photos and answers also help train our skin AI, so it reads skin more accurately.
You can take your yes back any time by emailing privacy@perbete.com. Then we delete your face photos. What the camera read and your answers stay, without your name or email. The sections below tell you more, including how long we keep each thing.
Your health answers
We treat these quiz answers as health information. Your skin concerns and conditions, like acne, redness, melasma, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis, including your answers to our daily questions. Pregnancy, menopause, breastfeeding, or plans to get pregnant. Allergies and sensitivities (food, cosmetics, metals, hair dye) and anything you type about them. Whether you or someone in your family has had skin cancer. Your skin tone (Fitzpatrick type) and where your family comes from (ancestry region). And the free-text box at the end, where you might mention a medicine.
The products you save to your shelf, or show us you bought, can also hint at your skin or health. So we treat them the same way.
This information comes from you (your answers, photos and saved products), from our camera's reading of your photos, and from your device (the place you pick, or a rough area from your internet connection, for the weather).
Your face photos
We only take photos if you slide to agree. We keep up to 3 photos of your face. We also keep the numbers our camera reads from them: your estimated age, a gender estimate, your skin tone and how clear the photo is. After the camera guesses, you can fix its answers. We keep what you pick, so we can see where the camera was wrong.
What we never collect
We never keep a map or a fingerprint of your face. To read a photo, our server finds your face and a few spots on it, like your eyes and nose. It holds them in memory for a moment, uses them to cut out your face and check which way your head is turned, and then keeps none of them.
If you skip the camera, we send no photo and no camera reading. We keep only a short note that you said no: your choice, which version of the text you saw, the language and the time.
How we use it
Your health answers decide which ingredients and products we suggest, and which we leave out. For example, a pregnancy answer changes which ingredients we flag. A skin cancer answer leaves out products with an ingredient that has an official cancer classification. The free-text box does not change your suggestions today. We read it to make the quiz better.
Your photos fill in answers you can change. Your photos and answers also help train our skin AI, so it reads skin more accurately.
With the same yes, we track your skin age over time. Each time you use the camera, we compare what it reads with your earlier visits, so you can see how your skin changes. We connect your visits by your account or this browser, never by recognizing your face.
With the same yes, you can play our face games. You play them by moving your face in front of the camera, like catching falling fruit. They are not out yet. While you play, your device follows where your face is. That stays on your device and is never stored or sent to us. A game may take a photo for your skin-age tracking, and we keep it like any other camera photo.
We keep your photo with your answers, your location and that day's weather, to make our suggestions better. Each time we make a routine for you, we also keep a note of the answers it used, the place and weather, the products we showed and the store links you tapped, so we can learn which suggestions help.
If you sign in, we save your answers so they follow you to other devices. We also keep a de-identified copy of each finished quiz, with no name and no link to you, to improve our suggestions. We never try to find out whose it is. We do not use any of this to identify you.
How you say yes, and how to take it back
One yes covers your face photos and your health answers. That same yes is your consent under Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's consumer health data law. There is no separate one. It covers every use on this page, including tracking your skin age and face games. We won't ask again for these uses unless you take your yes back. If we add any other new use, we will ask you first.
If you are signed in when you say yes, it is saved to your account, so your other signed-in devices won't ask again. If you are not signed in, it is saved in this browser only.
Where you say yes: on the camera screen, it's the slide that saves your answers and starts your AI skin read. If you skip the camera, it's the Agree and see my routine button and the line under it. If you sign in first, the line under the sign-in button covers your health answers, and your face photos always get their own slide on the camera screen. Each of these lines names this policy and links to it. This page says what we use the data for, who handles it and how to take your yes back.
You can take your yes back any time by emailing privacy@perbete.com. If your yes is saved to your account, this works on every device linked to it. A yes saved in one browser only is taken back in that browser.
From then on, we stop collecting face photos and health information from you. We delete your face photos (the pictures themselves). What the camera already read from them, and your answers, stay without your name or email, so they are no longer linked to you. De-identified quiz copies have no link to you either, so they stay.
How long we keep it
Face photos: we keep them for up to 3 years after your last visit, to train our skin AI. Then we delete them. If you delete your account, we keep them for up to 3 years from that day, then delete them. We delete them sooner if we no longer need them, if you ask, or if you take your yes back.
What the camera read from your photos (like your skin type, skin concern scores, age range and skin tone) stays after the photos are deleted, with no set end date. So do the answers, place and weather saved with your photos, and which routines we showed you. None of this holds a photo or a map of your face. If you take your yes back, they stay without your name or email.
Health answers saved to your account stay while your account is open. Answers kept only in your browser stay until you clear them. The note of each routine we made for you is kept with no set end date.
A de-identified copy of a finished quiz is kept with no time limit. It has no name and no link to you.
How to delete it
You can delete your account in the settings on My Page.
For 30 days, you can change your mind. Just log in again with the same email, and everything comes back.
After 30 days, we delete your name, your email and your account. Your skin results and answers stay, but without your name or email. Your face photos also stay without your name, for up to 3 years from the day you deleted your account, to train our skin AI. Then we delete them. After the 30 days, we can no longer tell which photos were yours. So if you want them deleted, email privacy@perbete.com within those 30 days.
To delete only your face photos, email privacy@perbete.com from any device. We delete the photos themselves. What the camera already read from them stays.
Your rights
You can ask whether we hold your face or health data. You can ask to see it, fix it or delete it, and you can take your consent back. Write to privacy@perbete.com. We answer within 45 days. If we need more time, we tell you why within those 45 days, and answer within 45 more.
Deleted data can stay in our backups for up to 6 months. Then it is gone there too.
If we say no, you can appeal at the same address. If you live in Washington and we turn down your appeal, you can also contact the Washington Attorney General.
If you are 13 to 17, a parent or guardian can ask us to see or delete your information.
How we protect it
Photos are locked (encrypted) when they are sent and when they are stored.
If this changes
If we start collecting a new kind of face or health information, or using it in a new way, we will tell you in the app and ask for your yes first. Smaller changes show up on this page, with the date at the top.
